RULES
Check-in / Check-out:

We are entirely flexible with check-in and check-out times, dependent on the schedule of your arrival and of previous or subsequent guests. If you arrive early and the house is still undergoing cleaning, we kindly request that you leave your luggage in the home, collect the keys, venture out to explore Coyoacan, and return when the house is fully prepared. For those desiring a late check-out, you can leave your luggage at the home to allow our cleaning staff to commence their work. We are happy to coordinate a later time for you to retrieve your belongings and return the keys.

House Cleaning:

For stays exceeding one week, we highly recommend scheduling a cleaning session with our trusted cleaning staff on either Saturdays or Sundays. In addition to performing basic cleaning tasks throughout the entire home, including bathrooms and kitchens, they will also change and launder sheets and can assist with washing personal clothes. This service incurs an additional cost of $800. By opting for this service, you are not only maintaining a clean-living space but also supporting two local families in need of work. Our cleaning ladies have been with us for over 10 years, ensuring reliability and trustworthiness.

Casa Sustentable:

Each residence in Vecindad Murales incorporates sustainable technologies, including rainwater harvesting systems, solar hot water shower heaters, solar panels, gardens with drip irrigation technology, worm composters, and drinking water purification stations equipped with a shared water bottle system to discourage the use of plastic bottles.

Sustainability Rules:

  1. Recycling: Two bins are provided in the kitchen—one for inorganic trash and another for recyclables (aluminum cans, glass bottles, and plastic bottles). All other trash belongs in the inorganic bin. The separation process is simplified for guests' convenience. The waste collector manually separates recyclables. Trash bags are placed in larger bins outside the house, next to the tree on the right.
  2. Worm Composter: Organic waste is directed to a worm composter bin located in front of Casa 13 at the end of the vecindad, housed in brown plastic bins.
  3. Cloth Napkins: Reusable cloth napkins, available in the cupboard in the dining room corner, replace disposable paper napkins. A straw bin is provided alongside for used cloth napkins.
  4. Drinking Water Purification Stations: To eliminate the need for plastic water bottles, each bedroom and the kitchen are equipped with purified water. Extra reusable water jugs are available in the kitchen for borrowing. If a water jug is lost, kindly replace it.
  5. Outdoor Shower Greywater Recycling: An optional large plastic bin is provided for recycling greywater from the third-floor outdoor shower. Recycled water can be used for garden irrigation.
  6. Washing and Drying: Kindly ensure full loads for the washer and dryer to optimize water and gas consumption. Drying racks and pins are provided for air and sun drying to minimize reliance on gas drying.
  7. Water Consumption – Rainwater Harvesting: The house incorporates rainwater harvesting, with the system located on the second-floor back balcony. Additionally, water-saving devices such as drip irrigation are implemented throughout the house. Given Mexico City's water scarcity concerns, we encourage efficient water use—consider quick showers or sharing showers to conserve water.
  8. Solar Water Heater: Utilizing a solar water heater, the house achieves nearly an 80% reduction in gas consumption for water heating.
  9. Electricity – Solar Panels: Four 320 W solar panels are installed to entirely offset the house's electricity usage. However, guests are urged to be mindful of electricity consumption, as excessive use may surpass the captured solar electricity.
  10. Biodegradable Cleaning Supplies and Shampoo: The entire house is cleaned using biodegradable organic cleaning supplies, which we purchase in bulk and store in refillable 20-liter plastic bins. In the showers, you'll find small bottles of Dr. Bronner's shampoo. Dr. Bronner’s shampoo is a highly concentrated organic product, and just a few drops provide excellent cleansing.

House Rules:
